Second suspect arrested in assault and robbery investigation

SPOKANE, Wash. – The second suspect was arrested Monday in connection to the armed robbery and assault on May 30.

Richard A. Rod, 32, was the first suspect arrested Sunday after his friend contacted Police, saying Rod wanted to clear his name. Rod was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail for first degree robbery, first degree assault and third degree assault.

Early Friday morning, the Spokane Valley SWAT Team and Major Crimes Detectives identified 31-year-old Blain M. Peterson. Peterson was arrested and booked for the same charges as Rod.

The investigation began on May 30, when Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a call in the 12100 block of E. Portland just before 12 p.m. The victim said two men, one armed with a knife, assaulted and attempted to rob him. During the struggle, the victim said he received several stab wounds, lacerations and was violently beaten. Officials said the victim received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries.
