BOISE – Boise Police detectives have identified a suspect in a May hit-and-run that killed a 28-year-old Boise man.
On May 15, 2016 around 4 a.m. officers were called to the La Quinta Inn and Suites at 2613 S. Vista Avenue in Boise where they found a man who had been run over by a car. That man, Pascal Baredetse, died from injuries at a local hospital later that day.
Witnesses told police that the car was occupied by a female driver and two passengers. They reported seeing the woman and her passengers run out of the hotel to the car while Baredetse chased them and began pounding on the car windows. He was then struck and run over by the car.
Detectives have identified the driver of the car as La Porsha Merritt. She drove off without reporting the incident and has since fled the state. A $500,000 warrant for her arrest has been issued on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.
Police identified all the occupants of the car and learned that they were unaware that Bardetse had died.
Detectives interviewed everyone including Merritt by phone, and went to California in July as part of their investigation. However, they were unable to locate and arrest Merritt.
“Our officers have been working closely with the victim’s family and have gone great lengths to build a strong a case,” said Sgt. Justin Kendall. “We remain committed to finding the suspect and seeing that justice is served.”
Detectives don’t believe Merritt is in Idaho and say the warrant for her arrest is active nationwide.
