SPOKANE, Wash. -- An off-duty Spokane County Sheriff's deputy helped catch a 23-year-old man who had an active warrant.

Deputy J. Getchell says he spotted Brandon Woodward in the passenger seat of a car in the area of Park and Broadway on Saturday evening. The deputy knew Woodward had an active warrant and contacted dispatch to see if a marked unit was nearby to stop the vehicle.

There wasn't a unit nearby so the deputy provided the license plate and told dispatch where the car was headed.

Authorities say another deputy  was able to pull over the vehicle a short time later at Broadway and Argonne. The deputy then detained Woodward and also arrested the driver, Jesse Adams, 46, for having a suspended license.

The deputy asked Adams for permission to search the vehicle and found a pill bottle that had three bags of methamphetamine.  The deputy also found 18 keys on two key rings in a black pack Woodward had between his legs.

All of the keys were old or worn and were for import cars. Seven of the keys had clear marks that they were shaved or ground down.

Adams and Woodward were both booked into jail. Adams was charged with possession of a controlled substance and Woodward was charged with 7 counts of making or having motor vehicle theft tools.
