SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A wanted felon was caught thanks to a traffic stop in Spokane Valley.

Police say the passenger gave a fake name when the deputy questioned him. Gabriel C. Ashby, 22, first gave “Spear” as a last name as said he was born in January of 1990, according to police. When questioned a second time, he allegdly told police he spells his name “Speer” and gave an age of 22, although he should have been 23 based on the first birthday he said.

Police searched Ashby because of the changes in is story. They reportedly found brass knuckles in his pocket, which are illegal. Ashby then gave police his real name and age. A search showed Ashby was wanted for a felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance out of Newport.

Officers booked Ashby into the Spokane Co. Jail for the warrant and a possession of a dangerous weapon charge.

The driver was released at the scene.
