SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- A suspected burglar in Southeast Spokane County found himself staring at the barrel of a gun.  Sheriff's Deputies said they arrested three people after an attempted burglary Tuesday night.

Deputies responded to the incident at the 10000 block of East Sands Road just before midnight.  Authorities were advised the homeowner had caught a man, identified as 19-year-old Devin Hughes, attempting to break into a garage and had him detained at gunpoint.  Deputies said they took Hughes into custody when they arrived on scene and located a black ski mask and a knife on his person.

The homeowner that held Hughes at gunpoint was a military police officer and once served in Iraq.

Hughes told deputies that his brother, 18-year-old Gage Hughes, and their friend, 18-year-old Darien Rhoads, were with him during the attempted burglary and had fled the scene.  A short time later Deputies spotted Gage and Darien walking down Highway 27.  Both were taken into custody, according to authorities.

Hughes also told investigators the three suspects had burglarized and stolen food from two other residences that evening, but that he was not certain where the other residences were located.

Hughes has no previous felony convictions.

Authorities said they searched a vehicle believed to belong to Hughes and found numerous food items inside, including beef patties and a box of steaks.  The vehicle was towed to the Sheriff's Office to be processed at a later time.

All three suspects were booked into the Spokane County Jail on the felony charge of 2nd Degree Burglary.
