Spokane police catch two escort ad robbery suspects

SPOKANE, Wash. --Spokane Police say two people are in custody for two counts of first degree robbery.

Patrol Officers and Major Crimes Detectives were able to take the suspects into custody and execute a search warrant to get more evidence and possibly more victims who made arrangements on Backpage.com.

At 2:30 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a report of a robbery near Colton and Jay St. in North Spokane. The victim said two men, one armed with a pistol and the other a knife, took his wallet and cell phone. They returned his debit card and demanded he get them more money of they would find his family.

During an investigation, authorities revealed that the robbery began with the Backpage.com The victim had met a woman on the website named, “Melanie.” He agreed to meet her near a park in the area. Shortly after, he met the two armed men who robbed him. “Melanie” was seen leaving with one of the men.  She was caught by officers and they identified her at Tenisha M. Herrell, 25.

Officers identified the apartment the suspects were using on the 400 block of East Magnesium. Authorities questioned several people inside the apartment and were able to indentify Nicholas R.L Sailors, 19, as one of the armed men.

While serving the search warrant, Major Crimes Detectives recovered evidence of the robbery.

Herrell and Sailors were booked into the Spokane County Jail on two charges of first degree robbery.

Officials say there has been a string of robberies involving a Backpage escort who goes by “Melanie.” The earliest case was discovered on July 2.  If you have information on these crimes, or have been a victim of a similar incident, you are asked to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
