GRANT COUNTY, Wash. -- A high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle Wednesday afternoon led to the arrest of two Quincy men.

Grant County deputies said they answered a call for a vehicle stolen from the George area around 2:00 p.m. The owner of the vehicle said he picked up Gustavo Tapia, 18, after Tapia called asking for a ride. Tapia and the vehicle owner then picked up three other persons and drove to a location near George. When they got there, the vehicle’s owner stepped out of the vehicle and Tapia jumped in the driver's seat and sped away.

A Washington State Patrol Trooper spotted the vehicle as deputies were writing a stolen vehicle report. The Trooper said he tried to pull over the vehicle but the driver took off at speeds reaching 100 miles per hour on eastbound Interstate 90.

The driver exited I-90 and stopped. Officials said Troopers, deputies, and Moses Lake Police surrounded the vehicle and detained everyone inside.

Officials said Tapia was arrested for attempting to elude police, theft of a motor vehicle, and DUI. A passenger, Adrian Diaz, 18, was arrested for a felony warrant. The other two occupants were released and the vehicle was returned to its owner.

“I really want to thank and highlight the Washington State Patrol and Moses Lake Police,” said Sheriff Tom Jones. “They kept an eye out for the stolen car, pursued it, and were essential in safely taking the occupants into custody.”
