SPOKANE, Wash. -- The trial for a man accused of trying to shoot a man following a drug deal gone wrong began Monday.

Damian Johnson was arrested for a March shooting. He faces first degree attempted murder. Authorities said he fired several shots at Denis Kozubenko after a drug deal near Baldwin and Hamilton.

Those close with Kozubenko told KREM 2 News that the drug deal was over oxycodone. No one was injured, but Kozubanko’s truck was hit according to sources.

Johnson has a federal hold in the Spokane County Jail. He could spend the rest of his life behind bars if he is convicted.

The jury in the trial was selected Monday. The family of Kozubenko said he will testify during the trial. The trial is expected to last two to three days.
