SPOKANE VALLEY, WANeighbors had to stop a suspect after he allegedly struck a man in the head with a sword in Spokane Valley.
A witness called police around 8:30 p.m. Monday because of the incident at Cement and Portland.
The 41-year-old victim told deputies he was walking home from a nearby bar when he saw a black car in the road. The driver was reportedly yelling at a man and woman outside of the black, four-door Jaguar.
The victim said he tried to walk by the car and avoid the confrontation. That’s when Lillian Howell, 48, and her son Nicholas, 27, allegedly approached him. He told the sheriff’s office the woman was flailing her arms around like she was going to hit him. When the victim put his arms in the air to protect himself, Nicholas reportedly swung the sword at the man, striking him on the left side of his head. Nicholas was able to hit him a second time before neighbors could take the sword from him.
Deputies visited Nicholas’ home in the 11600 block of Empire Way and found Lillian. They arrested her for disorderly conduct.
Nicholas is still at large. He is charged with 1st Degree Assault.
