SPOKANE, Wash. -- Two men accused of a north Spokane gang shooting were scheduled to be in court Monday, but only one appeared in front of the judge.

Spokane police are taking swift action after the double shooting, which left two men in critical condition.

Officers believe the victims and suspects both have gang ties, and the investigation is just getting underway.

The shots rang out early Saturday morning. Both suspects were in custody by Sunday.

Phillip “Cody” Ruiz made his first appearance for first-degree assault charges Monday afternoon. The second suspect, Daniel Dublin, faces the same charges, but police say he refused to transport from the jail to the hearing.

Police believe the two had an ongoing dispute with rival gang members, although the victims and witnesses are not talking.

Apolonio Saldana and Tony Figueroa were each hit multiple times in Saturday’s shooting.

It’s believed they were attacked just shortly after a different assault, just a few blocks away. Two other people were beat and pistol whipped.

Court documents show everyone involved first tried to pass off the incident as a drive-by, but when officers investigated further, people simply refused to answer.

KREM 2 also learned the two suspects have multiple prior criminal convictions, including drug charges, theft, forgery and assault.

Dublin is expected in court tomorrow.

Police say more arrests could be coming soon.
