SPOKANE, Wash. -- Deputies, police officers, troopers and federal agents all make up Spokane's Gang Enforcement Team. They've seen one of their biggest work loads just since the start of the year.
KREM 2 asked the team if more gang members are moving into town. They said they've seen a constant increase in gang members and activity since the early 90's. They describe it as steady. Neighbors said it's terrifying.
"I just wanted to cry," said Tamara Bird. "It's just sad. I don't know how to describe it. It's just everywhere. And it's not in the downtown area anymore. It's in the rural areas as well."
The gang unit said there is not a specific area where members live. They're spread out from the South Hill to the north side. The Gang Enforcement Team takes care of everything from long term investigations to basic patrols through the city and county.
The team said they need your help getting a handle on this growing problem. They said it's not something we can arrest our way out of. If you see anything that could be gang related, report it immediately.
