SPOKANE VALLEY-- A Spokane Valley paramedic attempting to help a woman having a seizure was assaulted by an intoxicated man.

Spokane Valley Fire Department personnel responded to the 9500 block of East 4th for a medics call of a woman possibly having a seizure on Monday.

While a Valley Fire Paramedic was attemping to access the female victim, 51-year-old William Nachtwey became agitated and called the paramedic an obscenity.  The paramedic ignored Nachtwey and continued treating the female.

Nachtwey grabbed the paramedic by his left shoulder and uniform pulling him away from the female victim.

The paramedic pushed Nachtwey away from him and Nachtwey tripped over a coffee table. He was not injured.  Nachtwey stood up, clenched his fists and assumed a boxing stance.  The paramedic and his partner chose to exit the residence and contacted Spokane Valley Sheriff's Deputies.

Deputies responded to the scene and contacted Nachtwey at his residence.  Nachtwey met the deputies outside and allegedly mumbled vulgarities at them.  When the deputies told Nachtwey he was under arrest for 3rd Degree Assault, he fell over a garbage can.

Nachtwey was extremely intoxicated according to the deputies reports.  Nachtwey was not injured.

Nachtwey was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the felony charge of 3rd Degree Assault.

The paramedic was not injured during the incident.
