SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Spokane Police Department says the new emphasis on downtown patrols has brought crime down 20 percent compared to the same time in 2012.
On Thursday morning, a man was arrested for trying to break into cars parked in an underground garage downtown.
Police say this is the latest example of targeting hot spots like Washington and Sprague as part of the new emphasis on downtown.
Officer Jeff Graves has worked Washington and Sprague for over a year and says the new patrols have made a difference in the past few months.
Graves says, "So far it's been an effective way of trying to fight crime and it's something we'd love to continue."
