SPOKANE, Wash. -- After multiple witnesses reported their involvement, the Spokane Police confirms two USC basketball players were involved in a Downtown Spokane brawl.
911 dispatchers took several reports about the fight on March 10.
Police say they cannot yet release the suspects’ identities, but USC did suspend junior forward Dewayne Dedmon and senior center James Blasczyk last week. The head coach named both of those players as the ones involved in the fight on the team’s blog.
“The investigation is proceeding slowly to some degree because it’s methodical. We want to make sure we get this right,” Spokane Police Chief Straub said.
The police department says it has been in contact with USC. Their detectives plan to fly to southern California to interview the players and their attorneys.
“I don’t know if I would say the taxpayers would have to pay for it,” Chief Straub said. “It’s not unusual to send detectives to another city.”
Neither of the players has been charged.
