SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- The Spokane County Sheriff's Office said it is getting new technology that will completely change the way they respond to crimes.

They said the new crime mapping technology will help them figure out exactly where to put their patrols and which problems to focus on 40 times faster.

The department's current system updates trends at the start of each week. Starting in July, the new "city view" system will update every four hours.

The $120,000 upgrade is something Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich has been working toward since he took office. His Department saved the money within the budget over the last several years.

"I believe this was going to be a game changer for law enforcement," said Sheriff Knezovich.

The Sheriff believes the new system will help crack down on property crimes, which is one of the counties biggest problems.

"Lets say a lot of calls on vehicle prowling in one area. You can shift your manpower and you resources into that area and hopefully catch the perpetrators.," said Sheriff Knezovich.

The entire program is web based, so any officer, anywhere will be able to access the information. The updates will also include reports from crime check. Even if an officer never made it to the scene, giving the department much more information to fight crime.

The new technology still has to interface with the department's record program that is 25 years old. It's expected to go live next month.
