GRANT COUNTY, Wash. -- Authorities arrested a man who was recently fired from a home security company for residential burglary.
Ryan Lee Schmidt, 24, was arrested Saturday afternoon in the Moses Lake area. Investigators said Schmidt poses as a Vivant employee trying to sell burglary and fire alarms.
Quincy police said Schmidt did the same thing in Quincy on Friday. Officer suspect that Schmidt gained the confidence of a prospective customer and then stole medication from inside the home.
Someone called police to report Schmidt on Saturday because they claimed he was pushy and aggressive. Police said Schmidt was wearing a gray polo shirt with the orange Vivant logo and carrying a Vivant identification card.
He had been fired from Vivant on Friday according to police.
Any homeowner in Grant County who may have recently let Schmidt into their homes should check for any stolen items. If a crime is suspected, citizens should contact their local law enforcement agency via the non-emergency dispatch number, 509-762-1160.
