SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police arrested two people on kidnapping charges Monday afternoon in North Spokane.  Authorities booked Keila Chapman, 27, and Merriah Wernsdorfer, 30, on second degree kidnapping charges.

Major Crimes Detectives questioned Chapman and Wernsdorfer during an investigation into a kidnapping and sexual assault near Lincoln and Wellesley.

Authorities said the victim escaped from a home along the 4600 block of North Lincoln on Monday morning and contacted police. Officers arrived at the home shortly after 6:00 a.m. The victim told officers that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted according to police.

Neighbors said they woke to find nearly one dozen police cars outside.

“It scares me that little kids can't even go out in their front yard anymore without it being unsafe,” said neighbor McKenzie Johnston, “from what I know it’s a good house with good people.”

Officers said the incident does not appear to be random. The alleged kidnapping and assault appears to be tried to drugs according to police.

“We believe she was involved in some sort of drug activity or drug transaction and that lead to her abduction,” said Lt. Mark Griffiths.

Officers said the homeowner is cooperating and letting authorities inside the house.
