SPOKANE, Wash. -- A man accused of fatally crashing into truck and fleeing the scene had drugs in his car, according to police.
Investigators searched Bryan Storms’ truck following Sunday’s crash. Authorities revealed on Thursday that Storms had meth inside of the vehicle.
Police said Storms, 38, drove through a stop sign at Empire and Helena and crashed into 53-year-old Kevin Smith, killing him. Storms allegedly ran away after the crash. Officers caught up with him soon after.
Smith was hit and killed just seven blocks from home. His widow, Rene, said her husband was heading to the grocery store when he was hit.
“It's just not real. I still expect him to come home,” said Rene Smith.
Storms appeared in court on Monday. Court documents showed that the crash injured two of Storms’ passengers. One passenger told authorities that Storms seemed paranoid when the wreck happened. Witnesses said that Storms was going close to 100 miles per hour.
Rene Smith said funeral services are planned for her husband on Friday.
