SPOKANE, Wash. -- Medics transported a victim to the hospital after she was allegedly attacked by a stranger near the Centennial Trail.
The woman in her 40s told police a man struck her with a mallet and took her cell phone around 4:30 p.m. near Mission Park.
The woman was dazed and began screaming. A maintenance worker from the Maplewood Gardens retirement center nearby heard her and came to the victim’s rescue. The victim pointed to the man who allegedly hit her, and the worker began to chase the suspect, Avondre Graham, 17.
Graham jumped into the Spokane River during the pursuit. Spokane officers were able to find him quickly thanks to the Good Samaritan. They arrested Graham in the 1200 block of North Madelia.
He was booked into juvenile detention for first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.
