MOSES LAKE, Wash -- Moses Lake Police said surveillance video shows a 14-year-old boy walking through his home with a gun after he tried to shoot and kill his parents.

Officials said the video helped them determine Nathon Brooks was lying when he told detectives an intruder shot his parents. They believe he may have tried to kill them out of revenge after he was punished for behavioral issues.

Brooks’ father told detectives that he installed cameras in the home to check if Nathon was doing his chores. The camera was put inside the kitchen of the Brooks’ Moses Lake home. The video shows a teenage boy walking through the hall at night with a handgun heading toward the stairs. Police identified that boy as Nathon Brooks.

Court documents said that 911 was called just before 10 on March 8 and the time stamp on the video matches at 9:55 p.m.

Brooks has been in custody since that day and has been in court three times in the last month.

The camera also shows police and EMT crews arriving inside the house and searching the scene on two separate occasions within 10 minutes of the first clip.

This week, both sides in the case will take more time to argue Brooks should be tried as an adult. They will be back in court next month.
