GREENACRES, Wash. -- A drunken man fell out of a window when a homeowner allegedly caught him breaking into her kitchen.

It started around 2 a.m. Sunday in the 17200 block of East Cataldo Avenue.

The homeowner called police when a loud noise woke her. She walked into the kitchen to find Travis Benefiel, 27, trying to climb through a window, according to police.

Officers say Benefiel began to fall out of the window when the homeowner screamed. He grabbed a coffee pot in an attempt to grab himself but fell anyway. The pot shattered outside of the house and Benefiel reportedly ran from the scene.

Another homeowner called police about an hour later because of an intoxicated man in his shed. Police and the original homeowner responded to the house in the 18100 block of East Mission, and the first victim identified Benefiel as the man trying to break into her home.

The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Jail for residential burglary and third-degree malicious mischief.
