COLFAX, Wash. -- The man suspected of strangling and cutting the words 'Do Not Resuscitate' into a woman’s chest was sentenced Friday.
Nathaniel Simon, 54, was behind bars on $500,000 bail. He previously pleaded not guilty to all charges.
He pled Friday to lesser assault charges that held a maximum 9 month sentence.
The judge sentenced him to 9 months in jail.
Whitman County Sheriff's Deputies said Simon choked his girlfriend, punched her in the chest and dragged her around the house. They said he then allegedly smothered her using his body to hold her down.
The victim hid her scars for three days after the attack. She said Simon told her if she told anyone about the incident he would kill her and himself.
Simon is charged with assault, making death threats and unlawful imprisonment.
