SPOKANE -- A man is in custody suspected of robbing a bank in North Spokane.

It happened at the Washington Trust Bank branch near Francis and Elm.  Police say a man entered the bank with a gun and demanded cash.  A witness called police to report the possible bank robbery providing a description of the suspect.  The suspect fled the bank on a bicycle.

Hearing the back robbery call while on his way home, a Spokane Police Sergeant responded to the area.  Following updates via police radio, the sergeant was able to locate the suspect riding his bicycle on Holyoke near Bruce.  The sergeant pulled his patrol car in front of the suspect, who then struck the patrol car.  When the suspect fell to the ground, a gun flew across the sidewalk.

The sergeant took the suspect into custody.  The suspect did sustain minor injures and was treated at a local hospital.  The FBI is investigating the bank robbery.
