SPOKANE, Wash. -- Authorities said they safely took a suicidal man into custody in N. Spokane Tuesday morning after he fired a gun inside a home.
Spokane Police said they responded to a home near Sanson and Lidgerwood around 6 a.m. because they received a 911 call from a man whispering that he needed help.
When officers responded, they saw people leaving who told them there was a man in the bathroom who was supposedly armed and on drugs.
Officers on scene said they tried to make contact with the man but he did not respond. After hearing what sounded like a gunshot, police called in back up.
Negotiators and SWAT were called to the scene and were able to make contact the man through a window. Just after 7 a.m. the man came out of the house and was taken into custody. Officiers did determine he had fired a round from a gun inside the home.
Officials said the man did not live in the home and neither did any of the witnesses inside the home. They said he was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
