SPOKANE, Wash. -- A man who fled the police Saturday morning was later found hiding in a  trash can.

The Spokane County Sheriff says they pulled over a vehicle that had a broken tail light early Saturday morning at 12th and McDonald. The deputy found two people hunched down inside the vehicle.

The deputy talked to the driver and asked why they were parked and noticed the passenger was slowly opening the passenger door. The passenger, Jason Brioso, 28, was ordered by the deputy to close the door.

Brioso tried to get out of the car and the deputy tried to stop him. The deputy says Brioso pushed him and he was holding a black bag when he got out of the car. Brioso couldn't get around the deputy so he tried to go through the car and get out on the driver's side.

The deputy says he grabbed Brioso's feet but he was able to kick free leading the deputy on a chase.

The deputy chased Brioso through several yards. The deputy received back up from a K-9 unit. Brioso ran through several yards, jumped on a home's roof,  jumped into a tree and fell.

Officers found Brioso hiding in a trash can. He was not wearing pants, socks or shoes.

When deputies returned to the vehicle they found a stolen semi-automatic Ruger .380 handgun inside the black bag Brioso was holding. They also found methamphetamine, a shaved down Honda key and possibly stolen debit cards.

Brioso was booked into the Spokane County Jail for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, making or having motor vehicle theft tools, resisting arrest, obstructing, third-degree assault and a fugitive hold out of Idaho for dangerous drugs.
