SPOKANE, Wash. -- Police confirmed on Thursday that there was no attempted child abduction near Hamblen Elementary School earlier in the week. A little girl reported that a man tried to lure her away from school on Tuesday.
Officers investigated the incident. Police said on Thursday that the 3rd grade girl made up the story.
The student told school leaders that the incident happened across the street from the school along Crestline. She claimed that a man approached her when she was dropped her off for school. She also told Hamblen staff that the man touched her shoulder and offered to take her home. The girl gave police a description of the man and his SUV.
Hamblen Elementary School leaders said the description matched another attempted abduction which happened in December. School leaders sent a letter home to parents.
