(SPOKANE VALLEY) -- He wears his badge on his collar.  Dog collar.

Meet Mako, a one-and-a-half year old Black Lab.  In addition to being adorable, he has the ability to save arson investigators hours or even days when it comes to figuring out where, and how, a fire started.

Mako has completed a five week training session in Maine.  There, dogs learn to discriminate scents of various accelerants used to set fires.  With an arson dog, investigators can quickly pinpoint the location of accelerant residue.  So what once took an investigator hours or days to uncover, a trained dog like Mako can now find in a matter of minutes.

Mako will get an official introduction on Monday, with a demonstration of his skills in detecting accelerants.

Insurance giant State Farm paid for his training.
