SPOKANE COUNTY -- The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says copper wire thefts are costing local utility companies and businesses big bucks.
Deputies said from early July to today, the Sheriff’s Office has taken 44 reports of copper wire theft in unincorporated Spokane County and in Spokane Valley.
The thefts have cost numerous contractors, utility companies and cell phone companies thousands of dollars and affected customers from loss of services.
A recent copper theft in the area of 25400 N. Crescent Road totaled nearly $10,000.
Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity near utility or cell phone towers is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.
