COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho --  Coeur d'Alene Police are assisting the Kootenai County Sheriff in the search for a man they say tried to rape a 16-year-old girl Saturday morning.

Officials say the 16-year-old girl was walking in the 1800 block of N. 15th at 5:30 a.m. when she was assaulted by a man who was following her on foot. The girl suffered injuries while attempting to flee from the man.

Authorities say the victim fled to a nearby residence. The homeowners let her in and called police.

Officers are trying to track the suspect with a K9 unit and Air One. N. 15th is not blocked but citizens are asked to avoid the area.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20's or early 30's, 5'5 tall, average weight, short reddish hair parted to the side, facial hair that is either a soul patch or a goatee that's about a half inch long and a mustache. He  was wearing a dark colored Carhart jacket with tan Carhart pants and black boots.

Anyone with information is asked to call Coeur d'Alene Police at 208-769-2320.
