NEWPORT, Wash. -- The Pend Oreille County Sheriff arrested a man early Thursday morning after he allegedly broke into a home, made himself a meal, then stole the homeowner's car.
The homeowner called 911 after he was awoken by a noise inside his home around 2:30 a.m. He told 911 when he got downstairs, he saw his Dodge Truck driving away from his house. He also stated the suspect entered his home through the doggie door and helped himself to food in the kitchen before he took his keys and stole the truck.
While deputies were on their way to the home they saw the stolen car driving northbound on State Route 20 about 14 miles north of Newport. Deputies saw the truck was being driven erratically and pulled the car over.
James M. Ericksen, 30, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, burglary, DUI, and driving while license suspended. Ericksen also had an out of county warrant for failure to appear in court for a 2nd degree theft charge.
