Spokane, Wash – A gutsy woman refused to fall victim to an armed robbery at her coffee shop.

A man reportedly pointed a gun in her face and demanded money but she said no.

Ashley Berto said around 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, two men drove up to the coffee stand on Francis and Division. They were two people she hadn't seen before and they didn't want to chat. Berto said one of the men jumped out of the car and pointed a silver pistol at her while demanding money.

“I bent down I was like, 'Really, is this a joke? Are you going to do this?' He was like, 'Give me your money,'” Berto said. “I was like, 'No! You’re not taking our money. I don't think so.'”

She says they yelled at her some more but she wouldn't give in. When she tried to get a good look at them, they took off.

The shop has pepper spray and mace, but Berto said she didn’t want to escalate things further. She finished her shift but admits in hindsight her bravery may have been a bad idea.

Her boss said she will be reviewing surveillance footage.
