SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. -- The body found in a wooded area near Chattaroy was identified on Friday as Donavin Stapert. The Malden, Washington teenager disappeared around March 7th according to investigators.
Whitman County and Spokane County authorities found his body buried near Chattaroy on Wednesday. The autopsy did not confirm how Stapert died. The cause could be determined once toxicology tests are done according to the autopsy report.
Court documents filed on Thursday in Whitman County court revealed new details about Stapert’s body. An anonymous witness told investigators that the 17-year-old passed out and died from eating chunks of methamphetamine.
Authorities arrested Bobby Bilderback, James Ramson and Chastity Bilderback. They all face charges in connection with Stapert’s death.
The witness said that Stapert died on March 6th according to court documents. The files also said that the suspects took his body upstairs, put him into a safe, and left him there for a few days.
The witness also told investigators that they discussed dumping the body somewhere in eastern or southern Oregon. Police believe that eventually the suspects loaded the safe into a vehicle and dumped the body. A tip led police to a location near Chattaroy where they found a body on Wednesday afternoon.
