OKANOGAN, Wash. -- An Okanogan Co. sergeant shot a suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at the officer and led a police pursuit.

Sgt. Tony Hawley says he noticed a car speeding around 9 p.m. Friday on Conconully Street. When the sergeant tried to pull over the suspect, 27-year-old Neil Mix, he reportedly tried to elude the officer.

This led to a pursuit from Conconully to Dry Coulee, where Mix lost control of his vehicle and went off an embankment. The car landed on its top.

As Sgt. Hawley approached the vehicle, Mix broke out the driver’s side window and pointed a gun, according to the sheriff’s office. The sergeant then shot at Mix.

The suspect and the female passenger were both taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say Mix is also wanted in connection with a stabbing last month.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating.
