SPOKANE-- The state of the economy has many people trying to keep their older cars running, but even that comes at a price.

A new visor alone can cost up to $100. That’s why some are turning to used car parts. Trading that new visor for a used one could save over $60.

Buying used car parts is becoming more and more common in Spokane. One local business says its sales for used parts are up by one third this year. Stores are taking in so many orders that businesses owners can hardly keep up with demand.

“With the economy being down and so many needing jobs, higher health care insurance, higher fuel, higher cost of everything, everyone is trying to save some money,” Dustin Koerper of Whitey’s Wrecking said.

There really isn’t any used car part that can’t be purchased. The savings of going used is typically between 50 and 75 percent.

Workers say they’ve seen drivers who replace just one car part extend the life of their cars by years.

Whitey’s Wrecking says it’s not just getting customers from Spokane, but from all over the country. This year, the business even started shipping orders to other countries.
