SPOKANE-- Almost four months after liquor sales went private in Washington State, people are still adjusting.

One store told KREM 2 News they have been working to capture a specific set of customers in the new market, while still helping those who got their start in the old system.

The Good Spirits Store in the 5 Mile Area of Spokane opened in September. It's off to a slow start according to management. They said its part of the process.

The Good Spirits Store owners also own four other stores across Central and Eastern Washington. Those stores employ 19 people. Fourteen of them used to work for state liquor stores.

The owners went out of their way to hire as many employees who were hired by the liquor board.

Sales are improving as the people get used to having spirits available at several stores.

They were down nine percent in June but went up 15 percent in July compared the same months in 2011.

The Good Spirits Store hopes to stand out by offering more unique products than just popular liquors. They have imported beers and some brands you can only find at bars now sold in 64 ounce glass jars.

Staff is in good spirits about their future though; they believe they can become the one stop shop for anyone looking to buy alcohol in their respective market.
