SPOKANE-- Ice is a hot commodity every summer, but local producers say the sizzling temperatures this summer have made it hard to keep up with demand.

At Frosty Ice, local demand jumped by at least 50 percent this year, especially on really hot days. The business currently makes 80 tons of ice in a single day. Even so, the stock does not last long.

“Everybody wants it, and they want it right now. But we’ve been doing this a long time and seem to do a pretty good job,” Matt Plummer of Frost Ice said.

Their drivers make deliveries to more than 50 locations throughout the Spokane area. They also have a Lewiston location.

Both shops are swamped with orders. The need for ice is so great right now, managers had to double their staffs.
