COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A federal program designed to help homeowners at risk of foreclosure is holding a workshop for the first time in South Carolina.

The "Making Home Affordable" program scheduled for Friday is designed to bring together representatives of the nation's largest mortgage service providers and nonprofit housing counseling organizations. The event allows homeowners struggling with their mortgage payments to review their options and learn about possible alternatives to foreclosure.

It is being held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Columbia Convention Center for homeowners who arrive on a first-time, first-served basis.

Homeowners are asked to bring all mortgage documents, income documents, and hardship letters. A full list of the necessary documents can be found at www.MakingHomeAffordable.gov and www.HopeNow.com .
