T-Mobile announced a press event for March 26, saying in the invite, “We’re still a wireless company. We’re just not going to act like one anymore.”
According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the invitation has led to speculation that T-Mobile may offer contract-free service.
That means customers would have to buy their phones outright, but their monthly bill would be cheaper.
T-Mobile is also in the middle of expanding its LTE coverage for a price tag of $4 billion, the PSBJ said. The improved network should be available for users at the end of the month.
The combination of contract-free, cheaper, faster service may pull customers away from the other major cell phone companies.
