NEAR RITZVILLE--  A driver going the wrong way on I-90 near Ritzville caused a deadly collision late Thursday that blocked traffic for hours.

Authorities said a driver in a Toyota Corolla was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes around 9 p.m. four miles west of Ritzville.  That is when the female driver slammed head-on into a 2004 GMC Envoy carrying two people.

Washington State Patrol troopers closed traffic on both sides of the freeway to clear the wreck.

Authorities pronounced the wrong way driver deceased at the scene.  Troopers said the Adams County Coroner was unable to identify the victim so their identity has not yet been released.

Troopers called MedStar to airlift to victims in the westbound car to the hospital.  Medics took Joshua McIntosh, 22, and Jessica Starr, 22, to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.  The extent of their injuries was not known.

The wrong way driver and the two other victims were all wearing seatbelts.  It is unknown at this point whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
