NEWPORT, Wash. -- Investigators said alcohol may have been involved in a fatal rollover north of Newport early Friday morning.
According to Washington State Patrol, the vehicle was submerged in water at the scene of the crash on State Route 211 near Davis Lake. Troopers said the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled off the east side of the roadway onto its top into a creek.
The driver, identified as Barbara A. Pierre, 40, of Spokane, was killed. A 37-year-old male passenger was transported to Newport Hospital with injuries.
SR 211 was blocked in both directions in the area, authorities said. The roadway was cleared around 6:45 a.m.
