SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash.-- Investigators spent Monday night trying to determine what sparked a fire in Spokane Valley.

It started in a duplex around 11:30 p.m. on the 200 block of South Rees Court.

Authorities said the duplex was in foreclosure and neighbors reported transients often used it as a place to stay.  When neighbors spotted flames late Monday, they immediately contacted police.

Witnesses also reported seeing a man and woman leaving the duplex in a maroon two-door Honda.

The cause is under investigation.
