SPOKANE, Wash.--- Students at Whitworth University packaged more than 600,000 meals Saturday as part of a challenge to feed the hungry.

Spokane native and pitcher, Jeremy Affeldt of the San Francisco Giants, challenged the university to raise enough money to provide one million meals to local charities in 2012.

The students packaged meals to be delivered to food banks and charities in Spokane and nearby counties.

“This is the way that students at Whitworth and community members of Spokane can come together and do something tangible to feed those people and do something important for those people,” said student Matt Keiper.

Generation Alive partnered with the school to deliver the food.
