SEATTLE - Almost any day of the week you can find Matt Haggerty on the run. It's earned him a nickname in his West Seattle neighborhood.
"One of the coaches decided to call me ‘Alki Slim,’” he said.
Alki Slim will run dozens, even hundreds, of miles around here during a busy week, and this has been a busy one
"This is the finisher medal I got for the Boston Marathon,” said Haggerty.
On Monday he was the youngest runner in the Boston Marathon, finishing 227th out of 27,000 runners.
He'll never forget running across the finish line in Boston, but there's no doubt some of his most memorable runs have been here along Alki
"I made a running group called Ritual Running,” said Haggerty.
Last year the high school senior started a group to encourage others to get active and to raise money to help people in impoverished countries get shoes.
"It's something I really like to do and it's fun to see people grow in running,” he said.
Haggerty's story and cause were featured in the marathon's program.
He's already running again and preparing for the next race, but he isn't one to brag.
"Everybody can be a runner and do what I'm doing. It just takes the discipline and motivation,” he said.
