PULLMAN -- The Washington State and Idaho men's basketball teams met for the 105th consecutive season on Wednesday night in Pullman, and the squads didn't disappoint the fans in attendance and watching on television.
The Cougars used a 21-2 run to start the second half to get past the Vandals, 76-64. It could have been much worse, but Idaho used a late 25-8 run to close the gap. The Vandals were as close as seven points with 1:07 left in the game.
Klay Thompson led the charge for Washington State with 25 points. Ferris High School product DeAngelo Casto also had a big night. He registered 13 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Reggie Moore was the only other Cougar to score in double-figures, finishing with 12 points.
Kashif Watson scored a team-high 16 points for the Vandals, while Jeff Ledbetter finished with 12. He scored nine points in the second half. Mac Hopson, who played for Washington State as a freshman, scored nine points against his old team.
The Cougars are now 7-2 on the season, winners of seven straight against Idaho. WSU hosts Air Force at the Spokane Arena on Saturday at 2pm.
The Vandals, who are now 5-3, should have no problem getting back on track Saturday at home against Eastern Oregon. They are set to tip-off at 5pm.
