SPOKANE-- The Spokane Police Department may be eliminating services and now volunteers are stepping up to fight crime.
Spokane C.O.P.S. or "Community Oriented Policing Services" started a program to lift fingerprints from prowled cars.
KREM 2's Danielle Grant got an inside look and spoke to people involved in the program.
The program's been in the works for about a year but this June, they got the go-ahead.
More than two dozen volunteers donate their time to fight crime taking prints and catching the perp.
If your car gets prowled, you can call Crimecheck to report the crime. From there Spokane C.O.P.S volunteers come to you to lift the prints.
They keep all interactions with the public confidential.
The Spokane C.O.P.S fingerprinting program is always looking for volunteers. For more information click here.
