SPOKANE, Wash. -- A volleyball tournament is spiking up the Spokane economy this weekend.

About 500 teams are in town from out of state, which equals about 10,000 people.

They’re here for the Pacific Northwest Qualifier tournament and booking thousands of local hotel rooms.

The tournament is the single largest hotel filler in Spokane. It can even be hard for some out-of-towners to get a room.

“I didn’t do it until a couple of days before I go here. With the NCAA tournament, it was a bit of a challenge,” visitor Gregg Harris said.

This is the sixteenth year Spokane has hosted the tournament. In all, it brings in about $5 million for the city’s economy.
