SPOKANE, Wash. -- A job fair for active duty military members, guard and reserve members, and military spouses was held at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center on Friday.

The University of Phoenix and Walmart co-sponsored the Hiring Our Heroes Career Fair that was conducted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Training Service, the Department of Veteran Affairs, and various other groups.

Aside from just being a job fair featuring 90 local companies, the event also sought to train veterans and other military job seekers in resume writing, military skill translation, job interviewing, as well as simply navigating job fairs.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates that more than one million unemployed veterans live in the United States. Friday's job fair was aimed at getting more than 500 of them a spot in the work force.

The event was held Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
