SPOKANE, Wash.— Police said the glare from the setting sun Tuesday evening may have blinded the driver who struck a Spokane Falls Community College student.

Police described the collision as "serious."

Authorities said the 19-year-old woman walked into the westbound lanes of traffic and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.  She was likely crossing the street to catch a bus when she was hit, investigators said.

She was rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries.

Police said there was a bright glare for westbound drivers at the time.
