SPOKANE--  Spokane Fire crews have kept busy through July responding to more calls than usual.

Authorities said crews responded to 14 fires in just the first 12 days of the month which is on top of all the emergency calls they respond to.

Overall, emergency calls this year are up 10% from 2011.  Engines respond to an average of 90-100 calls per day which is up from around 80 last year.

Officials said calls are up in every category, but medical calls are rising the fastest.

The Department said crews met their goal of responding to a medical call within 8 minutes 30 seconds over 90% of the time.  Their average response to a fire was 11 minutes 43 seconds.

This year, leaders have to send engines to calls in other station's areas in order to respond to an overwhelming amount of calls.
