SPOKANE VALLEY -- Spokane County Sheriff's deputies confirm two people have been found shot to death in a Spokane Valley home.

Deputies say an elderly couple was found dead in their Ponderosa neighborhood home. The 70-year-old man and his 78-year-old wife were found around 3:30 p.m. by their daughter who had dropped by to visit.

She told deputies that her mother had terminal dementia and had recently been released from a hospital and into hospice care at their home.

She said her mother had become increasingly difficult to care for and that she stopped by often to help her father. She called him Thursday night to tell him she would stop by Friday afternoon and said nothing sounded out of the ordinary during the phone call.

Both the husband and wife had suffered gunshot wounds and a pistol was found near the husband. The couple's financial papers had been laid out but no suicide note was found.

The case is being investigated as a potential murder-suicide.
